Yesterday is 2009 moon festival, however, for those students who study abroad like me would never get chance to sit beside our families. Considering such situation, we find our won way to celebrate. Last night in UI, the students from CSSA held the mid-autumn gala, the grand show of the most fascinating traditional and modern Chinese arts, and much more. there were lots of Chinese people came there even from NY, LA... everywhere in USA. Of cause, some of our American friends also came to watch the show even they can't understand Chinese at all. It's just like a big reunion !
There are some great shows I want to share with you here, for a beautiful memory of my first moon festival in UI.
The first one i want to introduce to you is Kongfu, which origins from China. Yet now, it on longer just belongs to Chinese, instead, Kongfu begins to popular all around the world. In our IL area, there is a Kongfu school which organized by an American, and lots of Americans as well as Chinese come there to study Kongfu. On the stage, they showed fit kick, strike, tumble, hold, cleave, etc. They are so amazing that i was totally attracted by the skills they obtained. from the children to adults, i can see the passion and spirit for Kongfu. Their instructor used to stay in china more than 5 years and learn Kongfu in ShaoLinShi, a mysterious place for higher level of kongfu pursuing. at the last session of the show, he had shown us his strong body which can against with weapons.
The second show which impressed me a lot is the Rock band show--HuoyuanJia. Such name belongs to one of chinese Kongfu heroes. In order to present Chinese spirit, our band played the song to sing his praises. During the play, they are trying to blend western music elements into Chinese folk music, using guitar, drum as well as erhu fiddle, xiao(a vertical bamboo flute),and complied them together naturally. And the two singers wore dresses of Tang Dynasty with red fan waving up and down, which give me a sense of proud.
And the last show i want to take you in is our special video clips--the Memory Of Moon Festival. Video makers collected many pictures and photos taken in China, form climbing Great Wall to making our favorite food, form celebrating graduation ceremony to traveling with our friends, from sleeping in parents' arms to helping them cooking...i was totally moved at that moment and lose my self in the memory of my days in China.
I miss my home a lot, however, I have more passion and enterprise for the fighting in UI.
Wow, I think you did enjoy a lot! The Full Moon Festival would be one of the best holidays in China, Korea, and Taiwan, I think. Actually, in big cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago where a lot of Korean and Chinese live, there is a wonderful festival on that day, so people can celebrate the holiday together.
